Dependent Life: When You Want The Best |
People are known to buy life insurance policies for them to ensure that when they die, their family will still be well provided for. However, what many people do not really see is that there is also a need to provide for life insurance coverage to the members of their family in order to ensure that when accidents do happen, there will be enough money to help the family cope with the expense connected to such event. In case of accidents and illness that results into a total disability or death on the part of the dependent, the beneficiaries stated in the dependent life policy shall receive the benefits therein. It is within this light that the Blue Cross of California came up with the dependent life insurance coverage for employees who are already enrolled in the Basic Term Life Insurance Program.
Who Are Eligible Dependents?
The spouse and the children of the policyholder whose ages are between 0-19 may qualify as dependents. In some instances, where the son or daughter of the policyholder is still a full-time student, he or she will qualify as dependent until the age of 24 years old.
How To Get A Dependent Life Insurance?
Getting dependent life insurance coverage is just very easy. In fact, if you are already enrolled in the Blue Cross of California Basic Term Life insurance program, you can always apply for dependent life insurance. The good news about the Blue Cross of California Dependent Life insurance is that you have a choice of two levels of coverage available. The first option, which is the $10,000/ $1,000 option, provides $10,000 coverage for the spouse, $10,000 coverage for children ages between 6 months to 19 years of age and $1,000 for children below 6 months. This option is available for employees who are having life benefit of $20,000 and above.
The second option is the $5,000/$500 while offers a coverage of $5,000 for the spouse and children between the ages of 6 months to 19 years old, and $500 for children below 6 months of age. Children of the policyholder who are already past the age of 19 but are still full students will still qualify as dependents and will enjoy all the benefits of eligible dependents under the two potions until they reach the age of 24 years. However, it must be noted that the coverage of the dependent life insurance does not include the AD&D benefits enjoyed by the principal policyholder. The coverage of the dependents is limited to the amount stated herein since their policy is just a sort of a rider on the policy of the principal policyholder.
The employers are not really required to contribute when it comes to cost of dependent coverage but the good news about the dependent life insurance policy under Blue Cross of California is that it will only cost about $4 per family. This amount is really minimal compared to the coverage that the entire family is getting from the policy. The very low monthly premium is geared to encourage the employees of a company to take advantage of this program and give extra protection to their family.
